The Mongolian Ger, commonly known today as a Yurt, was first designed over 2500 years ago in central Asia as a solution for portable shelter used by nomadic tribes. It was, and is, a brilliant, functional design that creates efficient access to beautiful, modular, safe, secure shelter, on a budget.

Today, Prismatic Yurt Co. brings this ancient technology to Life in a modern, lightweight, portable Yurt kit! Drawing inspiration from Bill Coppertwaites experimental interpretations, our Design-Build team has created a prototype for the new V1 Popup Yurt!

While the Yurt design has changed over the years, people’s need for accessible, stable, beautiful, secure shelter has not. At Prismatic Yurt Co, we’re excited to bring this modern interpretation of the ancient design to life for the modern seeker.

The basic Kit has a 13 foot base diameter with a 16 foot shoulder diameter. With a 3 foot center ring, it includes includes everything needed to set up a weather-ready shelter in as little as half-an-hour with a team of two—the compression ring, tension cable, lattice, rafters, with rugged canvas walls and roof, and several options available for Dome & Door configurations. The whole kit easily folds down and packs to fit in the back of a mid size SUV or truck bed.

We’re currently completing the Design phase of our newest launch with the V1 prototype, to be set and ready for production by May, 2026!
